THE MISSION

Dale Earnhardt had a passion for racing. Off the track, the 7-time Winston Cup Series champ's passion was wild places—he loved to hunt and fish, and he taught his children the importance of protecting wild landscapes and open spaces. Earnhardt wanted future generations to know the joy of time spent outdoors. For that reason, the Dale Earnhardt Foundation has joined with American Forests to plant the Dale Earnhardt Legacy Forest.

Launched on April 29, Dale Earnhardt Day, with the planting of seven trees at the late racing legend's headquarters in Mooresville , North Carolina , the campaign will plant Legacy Forests in each of the 19 Winston Cup states where Earnhardt raced. We'll begin by planting 77,000 trees in the metropolitan area surrounding Charlotte , North Carolina .

DALE'S HOME TOWN NEEDS MORE TREES

Since 1984, 22% of the tree canopy in the Charlotte-Mecklenberg area has been lost, resulting in reduced wildlife habitat, greater flooding, and more air pollution. Through our partnership, the Dale Earnhardt Foundation and American Forests , the country's oldest national conservation organization, hope to help turn this loss around. Our long-term goal is to plant E-Trees in all 19 states where Dale raced.

Earnhardt wanted children to understand why it's important not just to love natural places, but to also protect them. Environmental education, he knew, was one means to do that, and American Forests will provide CITYgreen software and environmental education lesson plans to approximately 700 city schools in 15 North Carolina counties. The program is an effective way to teach math, science and geography with real-world applications.
