Chickamauga Black Maple

The Chickamauga Black Maple stands among the trees that shade an important Civil War battlefield in northern Georgia where thousands lost their lives. Union and Confederate forces fought the battle of Chickamauga on September 19-20, 1863. Both sides sought to gain control of nearby Chattanooga, Tennessee, a major rail center and gateway to the South. After some of the most intense fighting of the war, the Union troops won the battle and control of Chattanooga, setting the stage for General William Sherman's famous march toward Atlanta. Your tree is grown from a seed taken from the Chickamauga Black Maple.
