The Dwight Eisenhower Cottonwood shades the humble clapboard house where "Ike" was born, in Denison , Texas , on October 14, 1890. The house is typical of that of a working family in the late 19 th century, and it has been maintained for visitors as a Texas State Historic Site. The Eisenhower's moved to Kansas when Dwight was young, and for that reason, he called Abilene "home."
