Texas Champion Bur Oak

The Texas Champion Bur Oak is located at the Denison Dam in Denison, Texas. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dam was begun in 1939 for flood control, a water supply, and hydroelectric power. A large reservior known as Texoma Lake holds millions of acre-feet of water and is teeming with striped, large-mouth, and small-mouth bass. It is one of the few reserviors in the country in which striped bass reproduce naturally. The recreational area has over 800 campsites for vacationers.
The Texas Forest Service sponsors a list known as the Texas Big Tree Registry, which lists the largest trees of each species in the state and their dimentions.
